TomTodo + AI

Use TomTodo with your AI assistant

Connect TomTodo to an assistant such as Claude, then just ask: “add ‘call the dentist’ to my tasks” or “what did I work on today?”. Your list stays in TomTodo; the assistant does the typing.

Connect in Claude

About a minute. You only do this once.

  1. Open Settings

In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors.

  2. Add a custom connector

Choose Add custom connector and paste this address: https://tomtodo.com/mcp

  3. Sign in to TomTodo

A TomTodo window opens. Enter your email and the 6-digit code we send you.

  4. Click Allow

Confirm that the assistant may use your tasks. That’s it: ask away.

Other assistants

ChatGPT and other assistants work the same way, as long as they let you add a custom connector (sometimes called an MCP server or MCP connector). Menu names differ between apps and change over time, so look in the assistant’s settings for connectors, apps or integrations. Then:

  1. Add a new custom connector and paste https://tomtodo.com/mcp.
  2. Sign in to TomTodo with your email code when asked.
  3. Click Allow.

Custom connectors may only be available on some plans of your assistant, or may need to be enabled by your workspace admin.

Things you can say

  • Add “call the dentist” to my tasks for tomorrow.
  • What’s on my list today? Put the flagged ones first.
  • What did I work on today, and for how long?
  • Start the timer on “Write report”.
  • Mark “Morning run” as done.
  • Break “Plan the trip” into five subtasks with point estimates.
  • Make “Water the plants” a weekly habit.
  • Which tasks have been sitting on my list the longest?

What the assistant can do

  • List: read your tasks, subtasks, habits and what you worked on.
  • Add: create new tasks and subtasks, with estimates and flags.
  • Update: rename, reorder, flag or reschedule tasks and habits.
  • Complete: tick tasks and habits off as done.
  • Timers: start and stop the work timer on a task.
  • Delete: remove tasks, but it asks you to confirm first.

It works only on your own TomTodo account, and only while it is connected.

Privacy and control

  • Nothing happens until you click Allow. The assistant gets no access to TomTodo before you sign in and approve it.
  • Disconnect any time. In the app, open the Account menu → Connected apps and remove it. Deleting your account also removes every connection.
  • Your assistant sees what you share in the chat. Task text the assistant reads or writes in a conversation is processed by the assistant’s provider (for example Anthropic or OpenAI) under their privacy terms.
  • Nothing else changes. Besides your email address and your tasks, we store only the connection itself (which assistant you approved and its access tokens), until you remove it. See the privacy policy.

Questions

Do I need to be technical to set this up?

No. You copy one web address into your assistant’s settings, sign in with the code we email you, and click Allow. It takes about a minute.

Which AI assistants work with TomTodo?

Any assistant that lets you add a custom connector (also called an MCP server or MCP connector) by web address. That includes Claude and, depending on your plan and settings, ChatGPT and others. If your assistant has no option to add a custom connector, it can’t connect yet.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to other apps. You don’t need to know how it works; it is simply the kind of connector TomTodo provides.

Does the assistant see all my tasks?

Once you click Allow, the assistant can read and change the tasks in your TomTodo account, the same way you can in the app. It only does so when you ask it to in a chat.

Can the assistant delete things by mistake?

Before deleting anything it asks you to confirm. Everything else it does, such as adding or completing tasks, shows up in the app right away, so you can check and undo it.

How do I disconnect it?

In TomTodo, open the Account menu and choose Connected apps, then remove the assistant. Its access stops immediately. You can also remove the connector in your assistant’s settings. Deleting your TomTodo account removes all connections too.

Does it cost anything?

The TomTodo connector is free. Your AI assistant may require a plan that supports custom connectors.
